Part Of The House

Two weeks ago, we went down to the basement and blew the dust off of an effect pedal for vocals. We bought this pedal, which adds depth with harmonies and echoes, shortly after we started Unsociably High. When we started Unsociably High, I was still quite new and felt as though I needed some time to understand the basics of singing before adding secondary elements. We incorporated this pedal into our set this past Thursday at Grounded and it felt as though it had always been in us and with us. It was this satisfying feeling that reminded me of being a child sitting on the floor in front of the fridge, playing with the magnets and discovering how they simply cling on. Speaking into the microphone, I thanked our roommate/brother from across the room, for tolerating our constant noise making. The forever embarassing eEeEEeaWWHHHaHAHah I have to do to warm up my voice, cracking here and there. The sudden onset of loud noises whenever equipment is malfunctioning. The repetitive songs that we strum and sing over and over again. At our break, we sat down with him in front of the bear mural, and he said, “It really doesn’t bother me. It’s like a part of the house. It’s like the hum of a refrigerator.” It’s like the hum of a refrigerator. Anyway, here’s a drawing of a fridge with magnets on it.

At one point, the song, “Walking On The Moon,” by The Police began to play in the restaurant, and Brendon and I had a small moment remembering a time when we observed a loved one in a familiar room, resting in between life and death. Although the weather was warm, the skin under our clothes stuck to our chilled bones. The song’s volume caught the dread in our minds and allowed us to be still in cold sweat. Whenever we hear this song, we exchange smiles that are one part bitter and one part sweet. I wonder if any of you have songs like that. Here are a few that make me feel that way. Feel free to send us yours! Angel - Shaggy Be My Baby - The Ronettes Dilemma - Nelly & Kelly Rowland Modern Love - David Bowie Power Trip - J. Cole Roses - SAINt JHN So Good - Nao Walking On The Mood - The Police You Make Me Feel Like Dancing - Leo Sayer Uploads The Texas & Louisiana video is finally up! It took me so long to finish this. I was having issues with the editing software and I had to update both my computer and editing software. I don’t like giving out unsolicited advice, but just… whenever a computer says, “Update Me Now You Punk,” just do the damn thing.

This is another video I edited this week. Last summer we recorded this song with @cnmnmusic at Raven Studios.
